Workshop Description
Zentangle is easy to learn, relaxing, and fun. This method of art produces beautiful images by drawing simple repetitive patterns to create original abstract works of art which appear very complex. However, Zentangle is simple: perfect for emerging artists and even those who feel they lack any artistic talent whatsoever. Yet it has depth, sophistication and excitement enough to capture the interest of seasoned artists of any medium.
We’ll start with the basics, using traditional Zentangle techniques and supplies. Once you understand the method and the original process, we’ll expand into additional media, designs and surfaces to create one-of-a-kind projects. You’ll take home a variety of practice pieces which you can turn into cards, gifts, ATC’s (Artist Trading Cards) tags, or miniature works of art. We will also complete more intricate finished pieces, using some of Karen’s mixed media techniques.
With its emphasis on mindfulness and repetition of patterns, Zentangle is well known for reducing stress and encouraging creativity, relaxation and concentration. The Zentangle method offers the comfort of structure without the stress of rules, judgment, or comparison. Classes are supportive, encouraging, and inspiring; but most of all, they’re fun!
All supplies are included. In classes 3 and 4, you may supplement with additional materials from home, if you wish.
About the Instructor
A former resident of Rockport, Karen Shirer now lives in Missouri’s Ozark Mountains, returning to Texas in the winter. With a lifelong love of all things creative, she has engaged in and taught many different artistic media: watercolor, fiber arts, paper crafting, mixed-media cardmaking, and handmade books. She is also a performing singer-songwriter, having recorded two CDs of her original songs. She was introduced to Zentangle in 2013 and has been fascinated with its patterns and possibilities ever since. After completing her CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) certification, she has discovered many valuable uses for this unique art form. Karen strongly feels that art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their previous experience, or lack of it. She strives to provide a class atmosphere of encouragement, inspiration and confidence, liberally laced with humor and relaxed enjoyment.
