Layered Stories: Encaustic Collage is an all-level workshop designed to introduce you to simple encaustic techniques, composition mastery, and layering.
Workshop Description
Settle in for a spell and create a vessel for your home. We will touch on the basics of using natural dyeing and will use pre-dyed cotton fabric to coil a two-toned, medium-sized bowl. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included in registration. This workshop is member exclusive and free, all you have to pay for is the cost of materials.

About the Instructor
Delaney Smith is a visual artist, designer and educator. She primarily works with handmade paper to create sculpture, and explores text and typography within her work. Her interactive books emerge from the inherent qualities of material and develop as the viewer alters the pages. As a result, each book is a unique story of marks based on unpredictable outcomes. In the same vein, she alters common materials in her sculptures, such as tracing paper and receipts, creating rich landscapes with incidental textures.
Delaney received her BFA in Graphic Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2007 and her MFA in Fibers from the University of North Texas in 2013. Delaney was an artist-in-residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in 2013-14. She teaches art and design workshops at art centers such as Oil and Cotton in Oak Cliff, TX, and recently taught a week long paper casting workshop at Arrowmont School of Art and Craft in Gatlinburg, TN. As a designer for Make Art with Purpose, she creates publications such as Let’s Talk, a zine series focused on increasing knowledge, understanding and empathy across communities through stories.
